Important dates to remember:


 


GRAB-(Go Read A Book) is a campus wide reading program to encourage independent reading.  Any kind of reading from chapter books, poetry, comic books, magazines, and newspapers are acceptable.  Students will earn a point for each summary logged in their GRAB journal.  GRAB journals will be provided by the school.  At the end of the six weeks points will be calculated to earn a prize.



PRIME-(Promoting Readiness in Math Education) is a campus wide math fact fluency program to encourage learning of basic facts.  Students practice their facts twice a week and take a timed test on Friday to collect points.  There will be a point given for each 20 facts that are correct out of 100.  At the end of the six weeks points will be calculated to earn a reward.


 

CHAMPS

We will be implementing CHAMPS classroom management strategy this year in fifth grade.


Conversation: No outside conversation is allowed during this class discussion. Be respectful of others.


Help: If you do not understand something, raise your hand to ask questions for clarification.


Activity: Listen to the discussion. Do not interrupt others who are speaking. Ask questions or make comments that are appropriate for the topic of the discussion. Raise your hand in a normal way to do so.


Movement: Stand and stretch if you need to, but do not walk around the classroom.


Participation: Share your experiences and questions related to the topic of the discussion.


Success: When CHAMPs expectations are met, students will be successful.

If your child is making below 70% please call to set up a conference to discuss your child’s academic progress and what we can do to help him/her.

Student Behavior Checklist:  

We will be sending home your child’s weekly progress on the behavior checklist. This checklist will be sent home each Monday starting September 11th to be returned on Tuesday signed by you if your child has two or more marks on it.  However, if your child has less than two marks the behavior sheet does not have to be returned.  You may keep it for your record.  Please go over the checklist with your child. Loss of recess will occur each day until we have it returned to us  signed.





Fifth Grade Discipline Plan

for 2017-2018


The following is the discipline plan that fifth grade will follow for infractions that occur throughout the school day:


1.   Verbal Warnings:  Teacher appointed     

     consequences

2.   Teacher/Student Conference

3.   Loss of Recess:  in class detention during

         recess

4.   Counselor referral as needed

5. Parent contact by telephone

6.    Parent contact and office referral


NOTE: Any severe infractions will be immediately referred to the office.
